Sunday, September 8 — Stories into Treasures: What’s in a Name?

Reflection:

If we enter our story of heartache, we will hear the whisper of the name that will one day be ours.

In every story, in every life, there are moments of death that take away our name and rename us as strangers, orphans or widows. At the moment of being unnamed, we are thrown into our story. We lose the name Friend and are given the name Reject.

The bottom line is that the atonement addresses shame in your life. But to get there, you’ve got to be willing to narrate your life. You’ve got to be willing to hear and tell your own stories of shame.
~ Dan Allender, The Atonement and Wiper-Fluid

God wants us to relieve suffering, pursue justice, facilitate reconciliation, and free the heart to love, but He desires for us to do so in a way that reveals His Character. It is not enough just to do well for others or to do things well. We must do well in our unique way in order to reveal the vast creativity of a God who loves to bring change through the most unlikely channels.
~ Dan Allender

You are a story. You are not merely the possessor and teller of a number of stories; you are a well-written, intentional story that is authored by the greatest writer of all time, and even before time and after time.
~ Dan Allender, To Be Told
