Sunday, March 17 — The Armor of God: The Breastplate of Righteousness

Reflection

The song of the righteous is this:

For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life.
~ Paul to the Corinthians, 2 Corinthians 2:15-16

The first “real enemy” in your life is always your own unsubmitted self-life (James 4:1–10). To struggle against your own agendas and passions is at the heart of spiritual warfare. The second “real enemy” is Satan. The one who hates you without compromise is always the power of darkness (Eph. 6:12). Wherever there is self-praising pride the Devil has much, much influence.

The Armor of God: The Belt of Truth

Reflection

Discernment is not knowing the difference between right and wrong.
It is knowing the difference between right and almost right.
~ C. H. Spurgeon

Only those who try to resist temptation know how strong it is… We never find out the strength of the evil impulse inside us until we try to fight it: and Christ, because He was the only man who never yielded to temptation, is also the only man who knows to the full what temptation means—the only complete realist.
~ C. S. Lewis

Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.
